outdoor outdoor fun (part two)

On Sunday, Liam and I were need of another outdoor adventure. So we set out on the Wildlife Loop in search of tatanka.

One of the unspoken rules on the Wildlife Loop is that you must pack an old loaf of bread or hot dog buns to feed the burrows (in spite of the "Do Not Feed the Animals" signs posted along the way). Unfortunately Liam and I are rule followers (and I forgot my loaf of bread at home), so these burrows were disappointed when they poked their heads inside our car. The burrows were Liam's least favorite part of the trip.  I heard a little "Thank you, Mommy" from the back seat as we pulled away.

On the way home, we stopped at one of the lakes for some exploring and playing on the campground play set. This was Liam's favorite part of the trip. Each time I asked him if he was cold, he responded "nope" or "uh uh."

I love how much this boy loves the outdoors. He definitely keeps me on my toes and makes me enjoy the area where we live so much more.

outdoor outdoor fun (part one)

Last weekend Michaela came to help us paint Liam's bedroom. Saturday was so beautiful that we didn't want to be stuck inside, though, so we decided to head to the Outdoor Campus. Since it was so nice outside, we stuck to the outdoor portion of the campus, hiking on the trail, playing in the mud pie kitchen, and Liam joined in on a game of tag leading to muddy knees and shoes (thank goodness for understanding instructors/parents and OxiClean.)

After the Outdoor Campus, we went for lunch at Bully Blends, where Liam enjoyed a smoothie that he affectionately referred to as "green juice." (Probably because the fruity flavor reminded him of the green Naked Juice we sometimes get.)

Days like this are meant to be enjoyed. I am so thankful for an amazing aunt who was here to enjoy it with us.

A Valentine's Gift for Dad

A few weeks ago, as I was trying to decide what to get Craig for Valentine's Day, it occurred to me that photo mats have the same texture as water color paper, and since I'd been wanting to try water coloring with Liam, I decided to try to make a photo mat for Craig.

Liam was pretty excited about the project and loved splashing water around on the mat, and I was pretty excited about the end result. We matted one of the photos we had taken this fall, I bought the mat at Hobby Lobby for less than $2, and used a frame I had picked up on clearance at Target. I was a little worried about curling, and the mat did curl a little bit, but once I framed it, it was hard to tell.

Liam's quite the abstract artist. Don't you think?

Puddle Jumping + Some Things I Love About 21 Months

A few days ago, when I responded, "Oh, I don't know," after a coworker asked when we planned to have another baby, she said, "Yeah, that's right, you guys are approaching the terrible twos. Then, it's three..."

That, night as I watched Liam playing in the puddles forming outside our house, I realized I don't write enough about the things I love about this age.

+He LOVES doing laundry. The minute he hears me open the washing machine or the dryer, he's by my side waiting to put the wet clothes into the dryer.

+He says thank you. A lot. Sometimes he even tells himself "thank you."

+He says bless you. Sometimes (most of the time) he tells himself "bless you" when he sneezes.

+He tells me "good job" when I turn the lights off.

+He's started to have an imagination. He climbs into my laundry basket and shouts, "It's a boat!"

+When I tell him I love him, he smacks his lips for a kiss.

+He loves being outside and has become quite the workout buddy. When all I want to do is sit on the couch, he drags his stroller into the living room, climbs inside, and says, "Bye, bye, Mommy."

I'm a pretty lucky Mama, for sure.

You are My Sunshine

I'm craving the Vitamin D these days, so I set out in search of some of my favorite sunshine-related items to share.

I actually already own this print. I have it framed in an 8 x 8 frame and hung with a few of Liam's baby pictures in our hallway.

I think I first saw this on one of Courtney's pin boards. I also really love  the navy.
I love all of the hand lettered items in this shop, but this card is definitely my favorite.

This t-shirt would be perfect for South Dakota summers.

This Boy's Life {As Narrated by Liam}

On Saturday morning, Daddy got up and headed to work. He just so happened to leave Comedy Central on, so I could catch up on some Police Academy while Mommy got ready. This gave me the opportunity to shout a few of my favorite words at the TV-- police car! and uh oh!.

Then came my turn to get ready. It's important to ensure that your outfit has the perfect ratio of plaid to trucks. What you can't tell about my outfit is that I have my favorite undershirt on--it's got trucks and cars and wrenches on it.

Silly Mommy left the door open while she was filling up the dogs' water, so I took that opportunity to run outside, bare feet and all, to show Gus and Ollie my tractor and my Nomas and shout, "Hey, puppies!"

Mom checked out the weather, and it turned out it was not that freezing, so we decided to take my sled out for a little hike on one of our favorite trails. The cool thing about sleds is that babies get to do all of the lounging while mommies do all of the work.

Also, their proximity to the ground allows for easy access to things like dirt and rocks and leaves and pine needles--my favorite.

The rest of the day was filled with the boringness that is Mommy shopping for earrings and me napping. This boy life can be pretty exhausting.
